'You, however, are not in the realm of the flesh but are in the realm of the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, they do not belong to Christ.' Romans 8:9
Three key words to help us enjoy our Spirit filled life:
Indwelling
Every Christian is indwelt by the Holy Spirit:
a) What Christ has done for us, he does in us by the Spirit who gives life: v1-4
b) We are now in the realm of the Spirit because we belong to Christ: v5-9
c) The Spirit who raised Jesus is living in you: v10-11
2. Power
Christians face temptation - conflicting desires from the flesh and Spirit - results in a fight: v10, 12
Our obligaition is live by the Spirit: v12-13
By the Spirit we can resist: v9-11
The Spirit helps us at the heart level: v5ff
The Spirit asks: 'why do you do this?'
It is not enough to just say 'stop it'.
Fill our minds with what the Spirit loves - Jesus
3. Sonship
The Spirit makes this a reality: v14-17. He wants us to know God loves us like his Son.
The Spirit himself comes: v16, so we enjoy:
a) Intimacy in relationship and prayer
b) Belonging
c) Inheritance
Conclusion:
Live by the Spirit and enjoy being his child.
